BAMBOO ORGAN
DOUGLAS LAWRENCE (organ),
MANILA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Las Pinas is a suburb of Manila. It boasts the world's only organ with pipes made of bamboo. The program notes to this CD tell the story of its conception in 1816 to its full restoration.  The wide range of the instrument is demonstrated by the varied works on the CD.

There is also a bonus CD which includes an interview with Fr. Leo Reiner, who was responsible for the restoration of the organ, and a movie (Quicktime format) showing (1) the birdcall stop; (2) history of the renovation (3); history of the organ; (4) the Bamboo Organ Festival; (5) St Joseph's Church; (6) Manila; (7) The bells of St Joseph's; (8) Local streetscape.
