Kenneth Barclay was born in Edinburgh and studied at St. Andrew's University, Pembroke College Oxford, the University of Aarhus (Denmark) and the Guildhall School of Music,London.

His musical career began as a pianist to Opera for All,  then Scottish Theatre Ballet. He has appeared as accompanist and musical director to London Chamber Opera, the Parlour Quartet(with whom he has made two recordings) and New Sadler's Wells Opera, to name but a few. He has also translated four books from the Danish original and provided an English version of Halévy's L.a Juive.

He is founder of Victorian Archive Concerts which has promoted works by Sydney Smith, Wilhelm Ganz, Tosti, Frederic Clay and Arthur Sullivan.
