Alan Hicks is a graduate of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, Australia, and the Royal Northern College of Music where his teachers were, respectively, Carmel Lutton and the late Marjorie Clementi. Upon completion of his studies in Manchester, he was awarded the Professional Performance Diploma (PPRNCM) with distinction. In 1992 he as appointed Junior Fellow in Accompaniment and the following year joined the staff of the RNCM as Accompanist and Tutor in piano.

Alan's wide-ranging performing career as soloist and chamber musician has included appearances at the Manchester Festival of Expressionism, Paris Conservatoire, the Purcell Room (Park Lane series) and St. John's Smith Square in London, and at Newcastle Conservatorium's Keyboard Festival.

Alan has recorded for the BBC and appeared on radio and television in Australia. He is much in demand as an associate artist, and in 1997, in partnership with his wife, mezzo-soprano Christina Wilson, won the South East Musician's Platform.
