Algirdas Janutas was born in Halle, Germany, in 1961. He began studies at the Glinka Conservatory in Minsk, Belarus, with Slava Polozov (currently with the Metropolitan Opera, New York), and continued at the Lithuanian Academy of Music under Professor V. Noreika, who formerly appeared at La Scala and the Bolshoi.

His stage roles have included the Count (in Rossini's Barber of Seville), Basilio and Don Curzio (Mozart's Marriage of Figaro), Walther (Tannhäuser) and the title roles in Gounod's Faust and Stravinsky's Œdipus Rex. In concert he has sung a very wide variety of parts in oratorio, and in works such as the Requiems of Verdi, Dvorak and Britten, Das Liede von der Erde, Carmina Burana, Gurrelieder, and several of the Masses of Mozart and Beethoven.

Mr. Janutas has participated in major recordings with the Lithuanian Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, under Yehudi Menuhin and other conductors, and has sung in festivals all over the world.
